Rome's Etruscan king triumphs over the Sabines

Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, the legendary fifth king of Rome and first of its Etruscan dynasty, celebrated a triumph for his victories over the Sabines and the surrender of Collatia. The celebration, with its procession of spoils through the streets, established the ritual of the Roman triumph that would become the highest honor a military commander could receive.
