A city of peace rises on the Tigris
On the banks of the Tigris River, Caliph al-Mansur founded the city of Baghdad, naming it Madinat al-Salam, the City of Peace. The Round City would grow to become the intellectual and commercial capital of the Islamic world during its golden age, home to the legendary House of Wisdom where scholars preserved and advanced the knowledge of ancient civilizations.

In Mexico City, Salvador Novo was born into a society he would spend his life observing, provoking, and documenting. A poet, playwright, translator, and the official chronicler of Mexico City, he became one of Mexico's most influential intellectuals. As a member of the modernist group Los Contemporaneos, he challenged conventions in both literature and society with fearless wit.
